LIGHTWIND Project Launches to Transform Floating Offshore Wind Technology
The LIGHTWIND project has officially launched with a successful kick-off Meeting on October 22-23, 2024, in Hamburg, Germany. This marks the beginning of an ambitious journey to redefine floating offshore wind energy by developing an innovative, ultralight, and cost-effective drive-train solution.
A groundbreaking initiative for offshore wind
The global transition to clean energy requires scalable and cost-efficient solutions. The LIGHTWIND project, funded under the Horizon Europe program, focuses on tackling key challenges in floating offshore wind by introducing a lighter, more efficient drive-train that enables the next generation of turbines to scale up to 30 MW.

During the kick-off meeting, the consortium aligned on strategic objectives, discussed critical next steps, and established a clear roadmap for collaboration across all work packages.
What’s next for LIGHTWIND?
The project will now move towards technical demonstrations, assessing economic, social, and environmental benefits, and further developing its next-generation drive-train solution.
